Mindy Kaling’s comedy series Running Point was a slam dunk for viewers this week, topping the English TV charts with 12.2 million views. The Kate Hudson-starring series about a Los Angeles family’s basketball dynasty, was also just renewed for a second season, and scored a spot in the Top 10 in 89 countries.
Fans sought out plenty of action and thrills this week, both in TV and movies. With an A-list cast led by Robert De Niro, the political-themed limited series Zero Day, about a devastating cyberattack, was a hit again this week, landing at No. 2 on the English TV list (7.5 million views). Plus, viewers took the airport thriller Carry-On to new heights — the film has officially reached No. 2 on the Most Popular English film list, with 171.5 million total views.
In the world of historical dramas, The Leopard, which follows an aristocratic Sicilian family during the unification of 1860s Italy, made a grand entrance on the non-English TV charts, debuting at No. 5 (3.4 million views). The series is based on Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s posthumously published 1958 novel, Il Gattopardo.
